Mission Statement: Central Colorado Humanists, a chapter of the American Humanist Association, exists to promote Humanism, a rational philosophy informed by science, guided by reason, inspired by nature and art, and motivated by compassion.

We affirm the dignity of each human being and support the maximization of individual liberty and opportunity consonant with social and planetary responsibility. Free of supernaturalism, Humanism recognizes human beings as a part of nature, and holds that values – be they religious, ethical, social, or political – have their source in human experience and culture. Humanism thus derives the goals of life from human need and interest rather than from theological or ideological abstractions, and asserts that humanity must take responsibility for its own destiny.

Organization Info: A primary mission of the Central Colorado Humanist chapter is local philanthropy. CCH uses donated funds to provide financial assistance scholarships to several local high school seniors to assist with the costs of higher education. We also provide, free of charge, personal hygiene products (soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, etc) to those who need them in conjunction with monthly food distribution programs coordinated by the Salida Community Center. Our chapter also presents a monthly "Sunday Science" lecture which is open to the public. Conducted on the first Sunday of every month, Sunday Science lectures feature guest speakers who present topics of a wide variety of scientific or engineering expertise, in layman's terms, as a fun, informative and educational nature.
