At Moonlight Pizza & Brewpub, we’re proud to support the amazing work being done by the Ark-Valley Humane Society (AVHS). Dedicated to ensuring the welfare of companion animals through compassion and care, AVHS operates an open-admission animal shelter, providing a safe haven for stray and owner-surrendered animals in Chaffee County, Colorado.

Who They Are

In addition to their shelter and adoption programs, AVHS offers vital community services, including a free pet food pantry, emergency pet boarding for families in crisis, and low-cost spay/neuter assistance. They also provide free behavior intervention training for dog owners facing behavioral challenges with their pets, all with the goal of keeping families together and strengthening the human-animal bond.

Last year, AVHS helped 1,546 animals, offering shelter to 621 and finding homes for 388 cats and dogs. They also collaborate with surrounding counties to transfer animals in need, saving an additional 125 pets last year alone.

What They’re Up To

From feeding shelter animals to offering spay/neuter services, AVHS works tirelessly to care for animals and assist pet owners throughout the community. Their commitment to every animal that enters their shelter is reflected in success stories like that of Lodo, a 17-year-old Pomeranian mix who came to AVHS in need of grooming and medical attention. After receiving a haircut and dental care, Lodo found a loving home to spend his golden years.

Where the Moonlight Monday Funds Go

Funds raised during their Moonlight Monday will support all of AVHS’s in-house and community programs, from feeding shelter animals to providing low-cost spay/neuter services. Moonlight Pizza & Brewpub is proud to support their ongoing efforts to improve the lives of both pets and their owners in Chaffee County.

What’s Next for the Ark Valley Humane Society?

Looking forward, AVHS is planning to enhance their adoptable dog room by adding soundproofing and replacing worn-out kennel doors. These improvements will ensure that the dogs in their care remain comfortable and safe until they find their forever homes.

How You Can Help

There are many ways to support AVHS, including volunteering, fostering, or donating in-kind items such as toys and food. Volunteers can help with walking dogs, playing with cats, taking photos for marketing, and much more. Foster homes provide a safe, loving environment for animals while freeing up shelter space for more pets in need.
